Breaking up with an angry, abusive spouse

Divorce may be necessary in a number of circumstances, such as someone who is in an abusive marriage. Some people are married to a spouse who is very aggressive and always angry, and this may result in abusive behavior that even threatens the safety of their spouse. Even though some people do not want to move ahead with the divorce process or deal with various divorce-related stressors, doing so may be in their best interests. If you have children, it is especially important to address any instances of domestic violence or a harmful environment that may threaten the well-being of your kids.

Unfortunately, many people have been subjected to physical, sexual, verbal and even financial abuse at the hands of their marital partner. Some people may be afraid to end their marriage because they feel that their spouse will retaliate once they discover that their partner wants out of the marriage. However, nobody should feel trapped in a marriage due to intimidation and it is crucial for people to protect themselves and stand up for their rights.

If your spouse has recently become abusive or they have been subjecting you and/or other family members to abuse for some time, you may need to move on from the marriage and even take other steps to protect yourself (such as pursuing a restraining order). We understand how stressful and difficult it can be for people who have found themselves in these types of marriages, but there are various legal options that may help people in abusive relationships move forward with their lives.
